Workshop on “Stopping Violence Against Women” in Madaba

Madaba, February 10 (Petra) – The Hareer of Hope Foundation for Community Development organized a workshop entitled “Stopping Violence Against Women” at the American University, in the presence of the Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Jordan, Angela Martini. This workshop was part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness and promote women’s empowerment in society.

Martini emphasized that gender-based violence is one of the most widespread human rights violations globally, stressing that addressing this phenomenon requires concerted international and local efforts to reduce and eliminate these violations.

She explained that the European Union prioritizes combating violence against women and girls in its strategic agenda, through adopting supportive policies, providing legal protection, and offering psychological and health services, in addition to implementing awareness campaigns that contribute to promoting a culture of respect for women’s rights.

For her part, the Director of the Madaba Health Directorate, Amani Al-Farah, stated that violence against women is a humanitarian, human rights, and developmental issue that affects families and society. She noted that Jordan has given this issue special attention, and that protecting women from violence aligns with the vision of economic modernization, as it is a fundamental condition for enhancing productivity, justice, and equal opportunities. For his part, Nihad Al-Dabbas, Director General of Hareer, emphasized the importance of holding such awareness workshops in all governorates and universities across the Kingdom. He stressed that raising awareness about gender-based violence is not an option but a societal necessity, and that empowering women and girls begins with educating them about their rights.

Dr. Uday Arida, Acting President of the American University of Madaba, affirmed the importance of supporting such workshops and initiatives, and of supporting women on all levels. He pointed out the necessity for everyone to stand with women and for the university to open its doors to such initiatives that promote women’s participation and empowerment in society.
